A temper tantrum is something that most parents hate to see. It’s not uncommon for your one, two or even three year old to throw one. If you’re finding that your child is throwing tantrums, there are some things that you can do. If you know how to properly calm your kid, you can find that the tips mentioned below can work wonders:
Your Child’s Age
First, you’re going to have to look into your child’s age. If your child is under the age of two, you’re sadly going to have to deal with it. Studies have shown that children that are under the age of two just don’t comprehend discipline or really what you’re saying when it comes to a tantrum. To put things short, they just can’t put the two things together, so it’s best to just let these things slide.
Reward
Always be sure to remind your child when they are acting well. If they are acting well, then reward them with a treat. They need to know that they are doing good things. If you just yell at them when they are doing something bad, they may want to do something good instead.
Never Ask
Don’t ask your child to do something. For instance, you don’t want to say, “What would you like to have for lunch?” Instead, you’re going to say something along the lines of “We’re eating lunch now, wash your hands.”
Out of Sight
Most temper tantrums are caused by things kids want and can’t have. For example, what happens if they see you using your phone? There’s a rather good chance that they are going to want to use it, right? By now, you should know what your child loves to play with that they shouldn’t have their hands on. Be sure to keep these items out of your child’s hand.
Rest
Throughout the day, just make sure that your child is getting enough rest. Don’t let them go to bed late or even wake up too early. We all know that if you don’t get enough rest, most are going to feel rather restless throughout the entire day.
